Hans Zimmer – Discombobulate (The Sherlock Holmes theme)

Oh my..I’m falling for the moviesoundtrack-music! Well I don’t mind at all! :D
I allways enjoyed listening to atmospheric and evocative music, so far mostly within the popular music scene. As a big fan of great adventure movies, good soundtrack often reaches to me, such as Hans Zimmer’s score of Sherlock Holmes (2009). I’ve known the names of Vangelis and Hans Zimmer for quite a while, but haven’t really worshiped them as some of my favourite composers until now. There is so much inspirations in all the music they’ve written through their careers, and of course it’s simply great pieces of compositions!

Above you’ll see the musicvideo of Hans Zimmer’s “Discombobulate” – the Sherlock Holmes movie theme.

Thomas Nellson – Persian Fields (Magnus Lauritzen & Incipient Remix)

Yes, my friend, Johannes Hallanger aka Incipient, and I remixed “Persian Fields” by Thomas Nellson. It was released 23rd April among the original mix, a dub mix and a Jaco Remix.

This is our first release together. I would say it is a good blend of Incipient’s trancy background, and my own atmospheric, groovy style. Hope you like it! Be sure to check out the other mixes aswell.

Tired of listening to Donkeyboy’s “Ambitons”?

Why not try a remix?!

Diskjokke, a norwegian “space-disco-DJ” and producer, has given Donkeyboy’s “Ambitions” (and “Sometimes“) a new sound. By remixing “Ambitions” into å quite chilled out house remix, makes the tune worthy even more listens. Remixes was released in December 2009, but still plays on my speakers once in a while. Take a listen yourself! :)

Danger – 4h30

Danger – “4h30 was released early february, on the EP “09/17 2007“. Somehow I didn’t notice this killer tune at first. Luckily, I was checking out a couple of DJs at the local bar a week ago, where one of them played “4h30“. I remembered the tune, and it really lifted the dancefloor aswell as me. “4h30” can remind of a blend between cinematic-music and electro-something. I was hoping for an extended version for my DJ-sets, but I think it’s more likely I make an own edit. Don’t be surprised to be hearing this track on my next sets. Also be sure to check out the rest of the EP(s by Danger)!!!

Casiokids – Topp stemning på lokal bar

After enjoying almost a whole week in Oslo @ By:Larm (a norwegian musicfestival focusing on “not-that-established” artists and band, mainly from Norway), I’m now back home with a lot of great concert-memories. Bands like The Pink Robots, Nephew (DK) w/Karin Park and Casiokids where some of my favoruites. Casiokids is probably quite known to the Norwegian people allready, especially after a TV-comercial by Platekompaniet (“Fot i hose“). Even though the songs by Casiokids is sung in norwegian, they seem to do it quite well outside Norway. Touring with Hot Chip in England and USA-tour already, is very promising.

Topp stemining på lokal bar” came out 15th of February. Double CD! where CD2 is a bonus disc with remixes. The music is somewhere between pop and electronica, with a playful and childish touch to it. You just gotta love it! :D

My favourites track is still the earlier single-realeases; “Fot i hose” and “Finn bikkjen!“, and “Verdens største land“.

Missing the summer?

Had a long winter? Longing for the spring and summer? Well David West & Ida Engberg really brings back this feeling in “Abataka”.
7/10

Abataka is including in a very special release by Kittball. There are lots of great tracks, but make sure to read this first!:

Of course, when thinking of DJs, everybody has a clear idea of what kind of life they live. They are flown in to their gigs, they stay in luxurious hotels, and are invited to dinner & drinks on the house. The cheerful club goer that keenly follows their every move celebrates them in a very generous way. As a matter of fact, there is nothing to be said against this way of life. However, in our fast-moving lifestyle we should not forget the people on our planet that could live for months or even longer from the money we spend at one of our club visits.

The dance music scene frequently uses African influenced music and rhythm. Sampling vocals and percussions of African origin often help DJs to achieve huge success with their tracks. Meanwhile the political situation throughout the world is reaching an ever-growing imbalance from which the poorest are made to suffer. Especially in Africa, children have it very hard. They are growing up in an environment that offers poor resources and are exposed to a life of inhuman circumstances. No education, no medical care and worst of all, not enough to eat.

In order to support these children and to aid their fight against poverty, the charity project It Began In Africa was set up by Juliet Sikora and Tube & Berger. Together with other artists from the dance music scene they want to help raise money for the organization The African Childrens Choir.

In cooperation with The African Childrens Choir, 18 artists made their own interpretations of the original songs from The African Childrens Choir. All profits made from the sale of this compilation will be donated to the choir and their further projects; i.e. building schemes, the founding of nurseries, and schools to help children get away from a life on the streets.

With this project we sincerely hope to be able to support the children of Africa and empower them so that one day they will be able to help themselves.

Magnus Lauritzen – Paranormal Activity

Paranormal Activity

Magnus Lauritzen – Paranormal Activity (08.02.2010)

It’s been a while since my last public DJ-mix. Finally I got the chance to make one for you to listen to.
This time I focused on giving the mix a darker feel and a spooky twist.

The norwegian Christian Sol, is one of my favourite producer and DJ nowadays. “Deep Field” is a lovley atmospheric tune. Fits great as an intro to this mix (Yes, Ive pitched it very high compreing to the original BPM).
Regret” is made by Marquez Ill. A name I haven’t noticed before I heard this track. Very good production, and great vocals. I’ll def will keep an eye on this fellow in the future.
To take it from darker and smooth beats to a more punchy point, I chose “Symphonica” by Max Cooper. Again a track with an awesome soundimage. Sounds like its taken from a horror movie.
Trentemøller always means Danish-quality! Needed some more groove into the mix. His remix of “Yes Mam” was the inspiration to mixing this vintage and dark inspirated DJ-mix. Love those vocals!
Releases on the Cocoon label is always worthy a play or two. “Take Me 2” did the trick of keeping up the groove in the set.
Feeling (Youandme Hirsh Edit)” is one of my favourite tracks from 2009. Psycotic vocals, with some great elements makes this a techno-banger I can’t stop playing.
Who doesn’t love the original, organic techy sound of Stimming? “The Loneliness” is taken from Stimming’s album “Reflections” (Diynamic Music 2009). Melancoly tech-house, wich I never get tierd of.
Next, i like follw up by an easy groove. The slightly minimal tech-house tune “Show Me” by Maetrik, does the trick.
Moby‘s “Pale Horses” has a lovley vintage-sounding vocal. Gui Boratto‘s remix has given it a techno- and house-friendly perspective.
Ever since I heard/saw Carl Cox spinning “Caliente“, I know it would be one of my top 10 in 2009. It just keeps on rolling all the way to the end!
Boom Boom“, its a banger! Tribal tech-house, remixed by the one and only D-Unity. Cool track to keep up the drive in the set.
Again, some vintage-sounds. Now by Ned Shepard & Sultan. The track lives up to the name of the label: “Great stuff”.
Ok it startes to get old.. “Sky and Sand“. But I really needed to put this down in a mix someday. Lovley tune wich slows down the mix, before it ends the set with a remix of a classic. “Hoipolli” or “Praiseworthy Tunes (Hoipolloi Mix)” as I remeberer the original title. Wippenberg has given it a slower remix, but still includes some of the hardness from the original. I managed to fuck up the beatmatching a bit here, hope it doesn’t weakens the whole complex mix.

Tracklist:
01. Christian Sol – Deep Field [Troll]
02. Marquez Ill – Regret [Voltage]
03. Max Cooper – Symphonica (Original Mix) [Traum]
04. Visti & Meyland – Yes Maam (All Nite Long) (Trentemøller Remix) [Eskimo]

12. Ned Shepard & Sultan – Kitsch [Great Stuff]
13. Paul Kalkbrenner & Fritz Kalkbrenner – Sky and Sand [Bpitch Control]
14. Kay D Smith & Marc Tall – Hoipolloi (Wippenberg Remix) [High Contrast]

Thomas Nellson – Dive Into the Deep

Thomas Nilsen aka Thomas Nellson, or just Nellson, is a close friend and collegue. He recently released this great progressive tune at Purple Edge Records. Wonderful and dreamy atmosphere wich just keeps on going. Check out the “Purple Edge’s Winter Sampler 2010″ release to find the track.

Lindstrøm & Christabelle – Lovesick (Album: Real Life Is No Cool)

My first track-review. Short post, but check out the track!
After the first single (“Baby Can’t Stop”), from the norwegian Lindstrøms album, “Real Life Is Not Cool”, I was hooked! Wonderful and groovy Nu-Disco!
Next single is “Lovesick”, one of my favourites on RLINC. A perfect blend of elements and vocals by Christabelle, and the catchy groove that will keep your heads nodding to it through out the tune.

8/10

Make sure to listen to the whole album.
